Stowaway cable and router storage boxes

Alex finally had enough of ugly cables snaking under his new LCD TV and decided to put them in place, in a box.<br /><br />He says, "A Mac Mini, Nintendo Wii, PS3, external hard drives, a router and a 5.1. surround system meant a lot of cables. In the larger Emu I cut a little rectangle in the front for reaching the main on-off switch with the lid still closed. So after watching TV, DVD or playing PS 3 I can easily shut off all media units (red switch). No 'stand-by' all night and day. I received an excellent list of Ikea light tent hacks from <a href="http://nonjatta.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Chris</a>. Easy peasy and most of all, super cheap.<br /><br />This is using the Liesta laundry hamper. I couldn't find the Liesta on the website but found a rather similar one called the <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80099224" target="_blank">Fyllen</a>. It requires more work as you'll need to sew a cover for the frame. Then spray the insides with glue and affix mylar foil inside the tent. Weekend Project #3: Crocodile USB drive

For quick and easy colander-to-lampshade conversion, it is best to look for a colander that already has a hole in the center.  Otherwise, drilling will be required.  In this case, I only had to enlarge the hole to fit the harp of the lamp base. <br /><br />The second is of a lampshade made from old Art history slides - my Father-in-Law taught Art History but long ago switched to computer presentation.  In this particular picture, the lamp base is also probably from Target, but it should work just fine using an <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10123581" target="_blank">Alang</a> base.  The slides are attached together with jewelry-making split rings through holes make with a tiny hole punch.  I have made a couple of versions of this lampshade as gifts, and gave up on the hole punch.  Now, I can drill through ten slides at a time with my Dremel tool and drillpress.  The slides are attached to the frame of a lampshade. Rather than spending $40 per articulated rod for the 20 rods ($800) needed to suspend the tracks from the sloping ceilings, I showed the electricians the Ikea stainless steel <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20079342" target="_blank">Deka curtain-wire system</a> and gave them directions on how to adapt it to suspend the tracks.
