It was important to get the right proportion throughout the piece, as a whole. Based on how each spindle is spaced, the shapes of the solid rectangle chips would overlap at the top and bottom of the lamp. Our preference was to have equal distance between each chip. <br /><br /><a name="more"></a><br />We overcame this challenge by assembling the lamp first, and then measuring the spaces of one "column" of spindles (top to bottom). Then we made sure it was consistent throughout the circumference of the piece. Based on those measurements, we created the pantone chips. <br /><br />At first we did a test on regular copy paper, and printed enough chips to cover a quarter of the lamp. Once we made the necessary adjustments, the final chips were printed on quality cover stock. <br /><br />Using a hot glue gun, we attached the chips directly to the flat ends of the spindles. You can also use good quality, double-sided tape. Keep in mind that it will be difficult to reattach any fallen pieces, depending on how high the light is suspended. <br /><br />Weather you prefer to mix the existing paper shades with something a little more colourful, or create a family photo gallery, you can be really creative, and get your friends to help with all the cutting! <br /><br />~ Lilia, Canada

Thought if they are going to be dirty or something happens with them I can always change them without any problems. The plastic is a little off white and doesn't match the white of the paper.  So, I bought mirrored disk at a craft store and used liquid nails to glue them on to the plastic disk. She likes color and she's a girly girl so we chose pink.  I divided the flowers into 3 groups.  I started with a pure hot pink and painted the 1st set, then added some white to create a nice strong pink for the 2nd set of "flowers" and then added lots of white to the pink to create a very pale pink.  I decided not to paint the white caps so the lighting would look like pink petals. Cut each of the petals from the Maskros to the size that you desire. I wanted the petals a little bit smaller so that the shadows on the walls weren't quite so big and there was a little more light in the room. <br /><br />You can do this by using a glass to draw around so the petals are all the same length. Lay out a plastic sheet and paint the backs of all the petals in whatever colour paint you like - gold/silver mix for me. <br /><br />3. Paint all the arms and the white clips that the petals will mount on. I hung them on a broom handle between two chairs to dry. <br /><br />4. Paint the fronts of the petals once the backs have dried. Whilst the paint on the front of the petals is still wet, gently place pieces of gold leaf on to the paint. The wetness of the paint makes the gold leaf stick. I found it was best to tear small pieces of gold leaf off of the big sheet with a little brush. Leave to dry. <br /><br />5. Actually, we already had one hanging in our office but we sort of needed to re-discover it as a candidate for this project. <br /><br />The Maskros lamp is an excellent space filler due to its sheer size, but it also provides interesting shadow plays and helps to define the room even outside of its own physical sphere. <br /><br />For this project though, we needed an even bigger lamp with the same characteristics. What we had to do was to increase the radius of the lamp. By using plain white paper cups, we managed to maintain translucency and still increase the radius of the lamp by about 1/3. The result was a spectacular pendant with crisp clean looks and only added a couple of euros to the original product. <br /><br />Building it is straightforward. Instead of mounting the thin leaves that ships with the light, use the same mount and add a little glue from a glue gun and attach the bottom of a paper cup to the glue.
