I was a little surprised that the Nailhead side table made second spot and the NOT Whiteboard stayed up on the popular list for as long as it did. Trendwise, we had an onslaught of standing desks (I had to turn down many, sorry!) and built-ins (<a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/10/built-in-ikea-hemnes-hack.html">Hemnes</a>, <a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/03/billy-built-in-bookshelves.html">Billy</a>, <a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/02/custom-built-in-ikea-pax.html">Pax</a> to list a few) and plenty of <a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/07/ikea-rast-turned-campaign-chest.html">embellished Rasts</a>. Other hacks that caught my eye this year were in the lighting category like this <a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/12/little-octopuses-lamp.html">octopus lamp</a>, and <a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/11/pimp-your-moppe-corpuslight.html">moppe</a> <a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/11/pimp-your-moppe-lightbox2.html">lamps</a>. But what really stood out in my memory were the <a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/06/frosta-x.html">Frosta X</a> and <a href="http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/06/frosta-z.html">Z</a>. I absolutely adore their simplicity. What about you? Which were your favourites? Lastly, let me say a big thank you to all who shared their hacks with me. It is unfortunate that I cannot post everything that I receive and have turned away many good ideas which weren't ... well... "hack-y". But I am working on that too, which I hope to launch soon. Hej! Finally, IKEA has given me a nod. Though a little, sideway tilt of the head it makes me all giddy inside. Yes, pictures-thousand-words thing rings true for this site - lovely, lovely room sets and beautiful shots you'd come to expect from IKEA. The Livet hemma (Life at home) blog started in late august 2010 by IKEA sweden. We started the blog because we had so many ideas and lots of inspiration to share. We also needed a forum for our IKEA customers to share ideas and solutions from their own homes and also to create a place where you can to be in close contact with IKEA. It's really interesting to see the IKEA products in use in real life situations. Who started it and runs it? The Livet hemma blog was started by IKEA Sweden. It's me Anna Pettersson and Tina Bj�reman from IKEA Sweden who runs it. We also have a great production team that support us. What is the goal or aim of this blog? The aim of the blog is to share inspiration for the everyday life at home. And also to create a creative forum for all kinds of people with interests in life at home and smart interior solutions. Here we noticed the great interest in IKEA and our products. Do you intend to have it in other languages? Yes, we would love to have Livet hemma in other languages. We've noticed that people from all over the world are interested in the features published here. How many readers do you have? Our readership is slowly but surely growing. New year, new look!

Today, I am rather ambitious. I've heard lots of comments and feedback for you and will strive to incorporate some of them. It still will be a clean, simple site without any fancy smancy. Why? I like simple and I think that works best. But first off, I want to announce that Ikeahackers have its own little domain now. The more astute among you may have noticed. I like the 's' in hackers because this site wouldn't be where it is today, if not for all your contributions. I also couldn't get the more common, IkeaHacker.com as it was already taken. So <a href="http://ikeahackers.net/">IkeaHackers.net</a> it is. I would love it if you do me this favour: if you have a blog/site which links to Ikeahacker.blogspot.com, I would be so grateful if you could change the link to the new url. A domain name change loses mega doses of link love and I am hoping to salvage whatever I can. So please. And thank you. While I get the new template and the post underway, the site may look wonky. Do bear with me. I hope to get this done in a day, without shutting it down and annoying you with an "Under Construction. Please come back later" page. Stay tuned.

In response to that (I wouldn't want you to think that I wasn't listening!) I have made a few tweaks to the current site. Mind you, this is not the big redesign I was talking about (which I am now seriously considering Wordpress. Any thoughts?). I don't want to do too much on this template since I won't be using it in the redesign. But I do want to make sure that your experience on this site, while I work on the new design for the next coupla months, is a lot more useful and friendly. So here goes: Many of you asked for: 1. Better navigation - I've added the "older" and "newer" posts links at the bottom of the page. Hope that takes away the frustration of browsing the archives. - Related posts complete with thumbnails are now under each post.   2. Better search - Under the existing categories section, I've added a drop down menu of all available Labels. - I've also begun adding the Ikea names of the items hacked into the Labels. I do still forget some times. So do bear with me while I get the hang of it. 3. Less clutter - I've increased the size of the left content area, as some of you mentioned, to give it space to breathe. This lets me include bigger photos too. - Removed the Recent Comments (which many didn't find useful), moved the Friends Link List to a dedicated page. Tidied up things in general. - Used images for the Top Hacks instead of text. I kinda like this alot myself! :) Little tweaks. But it's an improvement, don't you think?

The goal is to make it easier for you to share your hacks as well as simplify the process for me to get it up on the blog. This is where I need your help. The Form is in ... ahem, cough ... beta. I need your help to iron out the kinks, report any issues and give me feedback on whether it drives you up the wall. What I REALLY, REALLY want is a WYISWYG editor. Something like <a href="http://writetomyblog.com/">this</a> (pix, right), where you can compose your message and get it to me in 99% "ready-to-post" form. Alas, I couldn't get WriteToMyBlog to work and I my email to its support failed to get a reply. <a href="http://writetomyblog.com/">WriteToMyBlog</a> uses TinyMCE, an open source word processor written using the JavaScript programming language. If you know how to achieve something similar (and integrate it with Blogger), please, please contact me at ikeahacker [at] gmail [dot] com. I would love to explore possibilities with you. Besides this, I am also working on a new template. This one has been around for a year or two now and it looks tired. Hope to unveil it before we hit the start of our 4th year. (Phew! Has it been that long?) I've also received ideas from some of you. (Thank you!) Second the idea if you think it's good and I'll see what I can do. 1. Some one suggested having a "Wish list" for people who like a hack but can't/don't know how to build it themselves. Others can choose to fulfil the wishlist for free or for a fee. 2. Another suggested that I have a "Visitor's Lounge", where first-timers to this blog can familiarise themselves with the weird and wonderful world of Ikea hacking. 3. I'm also thinking of having the "Most popular hacks", a list of the most commented/viewed hacks. 4. As well as a "Table of contents", to make searching for hacks easier.
