The 40 Euro Wardrobe

So we headed for Ikea to find a simple and cheap solution.   <br /><br />When I came across the Gorm shelf (the 55cm's wide version - �24,99) it seemed to be perfect in size so I started collecting other items that would do the job of hanging some clothes on. In the end I found the Grundtal rail (kitchen stuff - �3,50) and the Frosta stool (�9,99) to be suitable. The �40 Wardrobe was born!   <br /><br /><a name="more"></a><br />1) So for starters build up the Gorm frame and install the shelves at the lower part of it. This in order to keep space for the hanging section. As you can see in the overview picture, I installed the shelves on each second level from the bottom.  <br /><br />2) Then smash 2 of the brackets that come with the Gorm shelf flat with a hammer. Hang this one over the shelf, then screw the other bracket into a second Frosta foot. The fun part of the Frosta feet and Grundtal rail is that you can slide it forwards and backwards as a drawer. An extra "finishing touch" that I did was screwing two left over Vagen curtain rod wall fittings on the upper side of the shelf, making perfect jeans hangers. You can also buy the  Vagen or Beskada Double wall fittings separately for �2,99, giving you space for at least four jeans.  <br /><br />~ Jesper Engels, Austria

Assemble only 1 leg of the Frosta <br/>2. Position the bottom 3 legs as shown. Make sure the long end touches the floor so that it doesn't topple. <br/>3. Drill two holes in the sides (I counter-sinked my holes so screw doesn't stick out) of the bottom three legs and fasten screws in holes (at this point, make sure you make the stand lean back a bit. Because the weight of the top will lean it forward)  <br/>4. Now you should have two bits, the top and the legs. Position top bit on top of legs at desired height.  <br/>5. Drill holes at the side of the legs into middle stem that's attached to table top and fasten screws in those holes. <br/> <br/>Voila! So each leg had 2 holes.  At the end of the legs the two holes in opposite legs are on the same height, the holes in the other two legs are a bit higher.  The same holds for the holes in the middle of the legs. <br /><br />I sawed the thread rods to get 4 pieces, each a bit longer then the distance between two opposite legs. Each short thread rod was now pushed through two opposite legs -- since the other two holes are located a bit higher, the rods fit nicely and form a cross.  The two crosses form the shoerack, holding one pair of shoes each. <br /><br />The end of each thread rod is fixed with a tapped bush. For best results, drill a hole in line with a leg, as you'll be able to secure the lamp power cable to the leg later.  <br /><br />Just remember not to drill the hole too wide, as you'll want the lamp to be a secure fit (though if you do - a length of insulation wrapped a few times around the arm before being inserted into the drilled hole will help). Once in place, you'll be able to swivel the arm freely. <br /><br />The lower shelf, from a second Frosta stool, is secured in place using four angle brackets, one for each leg. <br /><br />A couple of cord tidies stuck on the back of one leg to keep the power cable neat and out of sight, and you're done! <br /><br />(And in case anyone is wondering, the headphones are on a couple of superb Sieveking Sound Omega headphone stands - <a href="http://www.sieveking-sound.de/equipment/detail/id/16" target="_blank">details here</a>) <br /><br />~ Steve, Sydney, Australia
